Childhood drowning remains the leading cause of death in children aged 1 to 4 years.

She turned to the Orange County Fire Department for help in hopes of making a difference in her backyard. In an effort to prevent drowning and raise awareness about water safety, the Orange County Fire Department partnered with the Gunner Martin Foundation to purchase 1,000 door alarms to be installed in Orange County homes at no charge. This door alarm program is one of the first in Central Florida to offer home installation services.

 

Christina Martin said. The door alarm could have saved Gunner's life. The door alarm could have quickly informed us that the sliding glass door was open and Gunner might still be alive today. This new program is vital and will help keep children safe.
